Fresher’s Day

In most colleges, Fresher’s Day is a cheerful occasion to welcome the newly joined students. However, in the Sri Sathya Sai Hostel for Senior Boys, the spirit of Fresher’s Day goes far beyond a simple welcome. It is a celebration of a new chapter in the lives of the incoming students—one that is rooted in purpose, transformation, and divine inspiration. The day is not only about greeting the new batch but also about honoring their entry into the Sai fold, as they begin their journey as torchbearers of Bhagawan Baba’s message and mission.

Metaphorically, Fresher’s Day marks the re-birth of these students. Having joined the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, they begin to live life anew—shaped by values, discipline, and love. For the first-year students of both UG and PG programs, the day offers a perfect blend of joy, surprise, and bonding.

The celebration begins early in the morning during the hostel’s daily jogging session. As the juniors line up for what they believe to be their first official group photograph, the seniors, with playful mischief, surprise them with water balloons from behind—setting the tone for a day filled with laughter and camaraderie. Amid the astonishment and excitement, the juniors continue with their jog, now guided by the seniors.

At the Hill View Stadium, the juniors are invited to participate in a series of fun activities designed to break the ice and foster team spirit. The rest of the day is spent preparing for the evening cultural programme. Juniors work together on various performances, including drama, singing, and dance.

The evening programme begins with a drama performed by a combined group of first-year UG and PG students. This is followed by three musical performances featuring devotional and patriotic songs. A vibrant dance performance brings the curtain down on the event. The celebration concludes with a special dinner, marking the end of a memorable and joy-filled day.
